The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), a neutral and independent humanitarian organization, has a vacancy at its Mission in Greece for a resident position based in Athens:


As part of the protection team, the PFO contributes to the definition, the implementation and the monitoring of the activities of the ICRC Mission in Greece in relation with the Protection of vulnerable migrants. In line with the strategy and the guidelines followed by the ICRC Mission in Greece;

Detention-related and protection activities (90%)
 S/he contributes to the definition and implementation of the detention activities and the protection activities for migrants in Greece.
 S/he monitors and analyses the legal framework, including court cases, relating to protection issues for migrants entering and in detention in Greece.
 S/he contributes to the monitoring of the situation with regards to immigration detention and protection issues in Greece (including policy changes), collecting and analyzing relevant information.
 S/he participates in the organization and implementation of field trips (detention visits or other) with the protection delegate(s) to collect relevant information and data.
 S/he participates in the organization and distribution of assistance with the protection delegate(s).
 S/he contributes to organization of, and participates in, events (workshops, training, etc., e.g., with Hellenic Police)

Legal operational support (10%)
 S/he responds to requests for legal operational support to all Protection activities benefitting migrants in Greece, with legal research and analysis of specific legal issues as well as broader sectors of the national legal system in relation to migration
 S/he contributes proactively and autonomously to Protection activities by drafting documents and legal analysis relating to issues of relevance to ICRC activities, particularly migrants’ rights on arrival/arrest, migration detention, asylum and Dublin processes, missing migrants and forensics.

Ideal profile
 University degree (legal background or strong relevant experience)
 3-5 years of experience in the field of migration, detention, protection.
 Good knowledge of the Greek humanitarian and protection context and the respective legislation.
 Very good knowledge of written and spoken Greek and English.
 Knowledge of Arabic, Farsi, Urdu, French considered an asset.
 Professional translation capacity (English-Greek, Greek-English) considered an asset.
 Very good computer skills
 Good facilitation/training skills (for workshops, meetings with communities, etc.)
 Good analytical and leadership skills
