Mr Francesco Lo Voi appointed as new
National Member for Italy at Eurojust
In December 2009, Mr Francesco Lo Voi was appointed National Member for Italy at Eurojust. He joined Eurojust on 4 January 2010 In accordance with Article 9(3) of the Eurojust Decision, the appointment must be approved by the Secretary General of the European Council to become effective.
The former National Member for Italy, Mr Cesare Martellino, went into retirement in June 2008. Ms Carmen Manfredda, Deputy National Member for Italy, has been the acting National Member between then and the appointment of Mr Lo Voi.
Mr Francesco Lo Voi has been a magistrate since 1981. After working as a judge, he was appointed to the Prosecutor’s Office in Palermo where he was also member of the Antimafia Unit (Direzione Distrettuale Antimafia) until 1997. Subsequently, he became Deputy Prosecutor General at The General Prosecutors Office in Palermo. From 2002 to 2006, Mr Lo Voi was a member of the Italian High Council for the Judiciary, a constitutional body chaired by the President of the Italian Republic, which governs the whole judiciary.
Mr Lo Voi’s international experience in the field of judicial cooperation started during his service as a prosecutor and increased later, due to his appointment as Contact Point of the European Judicial Network and the activities he carried out by appointment of the European Commission, Council of Europe, Fatf-Gafi and United Nations. The position he last held before being appointed to Eurojust was Deputy General Prosecutor before the Italian Supreme Court (Corte di Cassazione).
